On July 15, 2015 Electronic Data Solutions (Elecdata) was granted a Section 333 exemption from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) which allows Elecdata to legally operate the Trimble UX5 and the UX5 HP for commercial purposes. A long time in the making, this is an exciting milestone for Elecdata who intends to market UAS products and data-driven UAS services to its customers.  UAS technology complements the company’s expertise in geospatial technology, particularly in GIS and field data collection applications.  After many requests from our customers, we are excited to announce that we can now begin offering data-driven UAS services for aerial survey and imaging as well as UAS products such as the Trimble UX5 for purchase.

The applications for UAS in the geospatial community are virtually unlimited.  Natural resource management, environmental monitoring, cultural resource surveys, agriculture, mining, landfill management, forestry, disaster analysis, construction, oil and gas, and vegetation management are just some of the areas Elecdata expects to serve with its UAS offerings.  Feel free to contact usabout your application.

The GIS community has worked with remote sensing data such as aerial and satellite imagery for decades and photogrammetric methods for georeferencing and scaling imagery are proven.  UAS technology has made photogrammetry and aerial surveying more accessible and more affordable through the advancement and miniaturization of sensors and autonomous systems.  With the UX5, high-resolution imagery can be acquired with 1 in. accuracy or better.  Whether your organization is interested in leveraging this technology by acquiring your own system or by hiring a firm to simply collect and deliver the data, Elecdata can be your go-to UAS resource.

Elecdata has always been a reputable distributor of high-quality field data collection systems from a variety of manufacturers and will maintain that reputation through the distribution of high-quality, professional UAS products.  In addition, the company has nearly 30 years of experience in providing professional services including software development, training, GIS services, and consulting.  In an effort to satisfy the demand for powerful and meaningful geospatial data that can be produced with a UAS, Elecdata is pleased to offer data-driven UAS services.

Over the past couple years, it has become apparent that there are several barriers to entry that may make it difficult for an organization to own and operate a UAS on their own.  Strict FAA regulations for commercial use, unforeseen costs, and an intermittent need for UAS can frustrate a company from acquiring valuable data.  With a staff that includes two licensed pilots and four people trained on the operation of the Trimble UX5, Elecdata is prepared to come fly your site and provide you with the data.  After all, it really is the data that makes these fun flying machines valuable to us!
