Water Quality Enters the 21st Century
April 8, 2014

One of the most frequently asked questions I get when I’m visiting customers is, “when am I going to be able to collect water quality data on my iPhone or iPad?”  It’s a fair question since almost everything we do in our daily lives is directly tied to our phones and tablets.

Late in 2013, I was finally able to tell them, “The answer is today!”

In-Situ, Inc., based in Fort Collins, CO heard the data-collection masses and came out with their SmarTROLL water quality data logger.  The device collects the most common parameters water professionals need (temperature, pH, ORP, conductivity and DO along with their derivatives) and sends the data directly to their iOS device via Bluetooth.  From there, users can email the data directly to co-workers, clients or even the cloud.  If your iOS device has a camera and is GPS-enabled, you can even take a picture and geo-position and associate it with a specific site or project.

So how does this benefit the end user?  For starters, it completely eliminates the need to carry any paper forms for data collection.  All your data (including calibration reports) is stored in your iPhone or iPad.  Next, you no longer need to head back to the office to offload your data, simply email the information from your phone (or a Wi-Fi hotspot if you’re using an iPad) at the end of the day.

Doing low-flow data collection?  No problem, the SmarTROLL software even has the ability to collect your low flow parameters and save them in a digital format.

Yes, water quality data collection has finally caught up with the rest of the world, but In-Situ’s SmarTROLL is the only device on the market that offers this unique package.  Contact us today for more exciting details.
